SHHH.

Tell me a secret, Fandom. Something no one else knows. Or something that most people don't know. Whatever.

If you don't have any secrets, tell me one thing you wish would happen to you.

Help!

Because things don't have to stay the same.

No. No, they don't. This time, he could get a happily ever after, and the entire fucking rest of the world could end.

I was there when we danced right up on the edge of the apocalypse. We were deciding how to spend our last minutes. It's not a random bogeyman, to me, it's what really, honestly almost happened.

Yeah. I know.

But I’ve seen people dead in one world here and alive in another—and the world still goes on. Ain’t that a chance worth takin’? To change things for the better. It’s not about saving one life. It’s ‘bout tryin’ and seein’ if, maybe this time ‘round, Edge doesn’t ever have to exist. No Geostigma. No Meteorfall.

There’s a chance to keep it all from happening. I think it’s a chance worth takin’. I've been in Edge, by myself, I know what it's like--you can't tell me people don't deserve a chance at a better life than that. The future can be changed.

We just have to figure out how.

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And then what? Exactly how does this stop Meteorfall? Or Geostigma? Do you think Sephiroth's not going to come back?

Those people in Edge, the ones you feel so bad about? Half of them will go back to living on top of the plate, and the other half to the slums, which are fucking worse. ShinRa will keep sucking up the planet's lifestream. And injecting more SOLDIERs with Jenova cells. Which will give Sephiroth a bigger army, next time around.

You think it's a chance worth taking. And if you're wrong about how, and the whole world disintegrates from Meteor, are you just going to shrug and say "Whoops!" ? Millions of people will be dead.

Your world managed to get rid of Sephiroth once. Permanently.

You're not thinking big enough. Change means all sorts of things--you're just assuming one change is one change and that's it.

It spirals out. If we stop one thing, other things will change. If The Planet never has to defend itself from Meteor how is that bad? Maybe ShinRa needs to change.

But you know what? That's doable. I could do it. Alone. Give me a year and change of more training and I could forcibly go and change the minds of every single person working for ShinRa if that's what it took to make the changes need to make things better. It'd take me awhile but, you know, I could do it.

You know? You almost had me, up until forcibly changing minds.

I'm not in favor of any plan that involves going around and turning an entire company filled with employees into slaves and zombies without any free will.

It's not the best plan and it's not the one I'd go to first. But it is a solution and yes, I think fiddling with someone's mind 'till they look at a topic differently (which, by the by, does not erase their personality or turn them into zombies: just means they think of that one thing differently) is a lot better than billions dead.

[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, let's be clear on this. Billions didn't die, in my timeline, so that's not what you're fighting against.

You think mind-zapping hundreds of people you don't know is better than bad things happening to your boyfriend.

I don't agree. It helps that I know many of those hundreds of people.

I reaaaally hate to break it to you, but right now?

I don't even know what shit is in store for Zack. This? This has a lot more to do what your world looks like.

And what is preventable in Zack's.
