Little Wooden Boy dodged with the speed of a swift oak tree! In other words, he stayed perfectly still, unless there was a very strong breeze. But his look said "Whatever you do, you won't break me. I've dealt with worse. I'm too strong to be beaten."

Or maybe it said "My face was carved this way."
