Why are girls batting their eyelashes, giggling, blushing and, in two separate instances, asking me out for some kind of date?

Is this an initiation ritual of some sort? Is this normal behavior for the females of Fandom High?

Taken is actually a fairly weak word. It's only two syllables and can imply several things other than being joined with another person.

If you were looking for a strong word, I would suggest Draconian.

Well, you see, when a person first meets a person they find attractive, it's generally considered bad form to simply rip their clothes off and roll around like a pair of weasels, if for no other reason than that you might be in a public place.

So society has developed a number of ways for people to subtlely display their interest in another person. Hopefully said person will pick up on these signals, and even display some of their own.

That's flirting.

A dictionary would be most commonly found in a bookshelf, actually. Or perhaps a small edition would be in a briefcase or bag. Putting a dictionary down one's pants would be both painful and unusual.
